North Devon Biosphere
Last year the Rolle Canal Society received a grant for materials and plant needed for the restoration work at Rosemoor from the North Devon Biosphere Project to complement the award from the Postcode Lottery.
There is a world network of 669 Biosphere Reserves in 120 countries worldwide and funding comes from UNESCO. The North Devon Biosphere Reserve, which extends from the edge of Exmoor down to the sea and includes Lundy Island, was the first of six in the UK to be designated. In November 2018 Andy Bell, who is the North Devon Biosphere co-ordinator, invited the Society to send a delegate to a Conference at Braunton involving two English Biosphere Reserves and two in France to discuss best practise for sustainable tourism in sensitive locations |
