ROSEMOOR RESTORATION REPORT FROM TONY NICHOLLS - 31st July 2019
With limited resources, this week we focused on two main tasks: preparing the area in front of the lime kiln for sowing with grass seed and continuing the excavations at the site of the former tucking mill.
With limited resources, this week we focused on two main tasks: preparing the area in front of the lime kiln for sowing with grass seed and continuing the excavations at the site of the former tucking mill.
As a result of the recent good weather, weeds have flourished so our first task was to remove a carpet of thistles, rat's tail plantains, groundsel and various other invaders from the ground adjacent to the lime kiln. A stone pick was then carried out before raking over the site prior to sowing grass seed. This was 90% completed by the end of the morning although a small area remains to be seeded.
Further excavation of the former tucking mill continues to reveal more of the fabric of this intriguing structure and its relationship with the canal. We have unearthed a lot of ironwork which, when cleaned up, may throw more light on the nature of the the original building. We have also started to dig out and repair the canal wall (tow path side) below the bund. When complete, this will define more clearly the full extent of the basin and its associated workings. |

ROSEMOOR RESTORATION REPORT FROM MICHAEL ELLIOTT - 17th July 2019
This week the team were back from the heat of Ridd to the shade of Rosemoor, again concentrating on the tucking mill site. A stubborn tree stump was finally extracted from the top of an old wall after a struggle over three weeks, and work continued over clearing the canal bed, and excavating and rebuilding the canal-side wall.

RESTORATION REPORT FROM MICHAEL ELLIOTT - 10th July 2019
Two weeks ago, the Rosemoor team moved to the Ridd inclined plane amid reports the picnic table was disappearing from view. Sure enough a scene like a jungle awaited the team, who set about liberating the picnic table from the surrounding undergrowth, in very hot weather, before moving on to tidying up the path down to the base of the incline.

ROSEMOOR RESTORATION REPORT FROM IAN HARRISON - 3rd July 2019
This week the shuttering was removed from the lime-kiln arch to reveal it in its full glory – a great achievement. Also some further work was carried out on the lime kiln foundations.
Upstream, excavation of the basin wall next to the tucking mill continued in preparation for masonry work.
